Job Summary:
RSI is seeking a groundwater remediation manager as part of our Environmental Services Team to manage a variety of groundwater investigation and remediation projects on the Department of Energy (DOE) Oak Ridge Reservation. The successful candidate will bring innovative approaches to following the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation, and Liability Act (CERCLA) groundwater remedy process from Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study to Record of Decision (ROD) and post-ROD remedy implementation. This includes managing the cost and schedule for the development of groundwater decision documents, field implementation of well drilling and data collection, and reporting to stakeholders of project progress. The ideal candidate will have experience with project management, well drilling techniques, an understanding of groundwater modeling and geophysical evaluations, and a strong foundation in geosciences. This role requires a strong balance of technical expertise and project management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, stakeholders, and regulators.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Leads a small team of hydrogeologists and environmental scientists managing environmental cleanup projects for the DOE.
- Utilizes the earned value management system and/or project management principles to manage projects schedules and costs to ensure on-time delivery to the DOE customer.
- Prepares and peer reviews groundwater remedial investigation/design/action work plans, annual reports, and remedial action completion reports.
- Works with groundwater technical team and specialty subcontractors to design and evaluate active groundwater remedies. This includes design of groundwater monitoring networks to support site characterization and remedy performance.
- Facilitates the Data Quality Objective (DQO) process for groundwater projects, leading multidisciplinary teams in identifying data gaps and subsequently developing a work plan that addresses those data needs.
- Works closely with field sampling and well drilling teams to ensure data are collected in accordance with work plans.
- Evaluates data generated by field activities to provide detailed interpretations of subsurface stratigraphy/structure, groundwater flow conditions, and nature and extent of contamination.
- Mentors junior hydrogeologists and environmental scientists through regular interactions and peer review of their work products.
- Regularly presents to and collaborates with DOE clients, regulatory agencies and other DOE contractors.
Requirements and Education:
- B.S. in Geoscience, Environmental Science or related physical science/engineering
- 5+ years of experience in groundwater investigation and/or remediation
- Strong technical writing and presentation skills
Preferred Requirements and Education:
- M.S. or PhD in Geoscience, Environmental Science or related physical science/engineering
- 10+ years of experience in groundwater remediation
- Experience with Department of Energy cleanup projects
- Familiarity with numerical flow and transport models
