Location(s): Grand Junction, CO

Hiring Range: $65,000.00 - $70,000.00/yr. (Depending on education, experience)

Status: Full-Time

RSI EnTech, LLC is recruiting for a Defense Related Uranium Mines (DRUM) Field Team Lead who will supervise a field team of scientists and technicians to assess abandoned uranium mines throughout the western United States, as part of the Defense Related Uranium Mines program.

 

This position requires travel and to be in the field over 50% of the time.

 

Primary responsibilities and essential functions:

Field Preparation

  • Ensure that the team is fully prepared for V&V activities prior to leaving for the field.
  • Strategize and plan how and which mines to visit, including but not limited to roads, access, property ownership, and anything else that may affect the field performance. Includes contingency planning.
  • Conduct pre-planning meeting/s prior to going into the field.
  • Ensure soil sampling kits, water sampling kits, and other tools and equipment are restocked, charged, and ready to deploy.
  • Communicating with management and partner land agencies about mission goals and expectations for field work.

 

 

Field Responsibilities

  • Conduct a plan of the day and safety meeting every morning before beginning field work.
  • Responsible for vehicle, UTV, and trailer inspection sign-off.
  • Responsible for trailer towing and UTV operation.
  • Set appropriate field pace so that all data is appropriately collected accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Collect field notes documenting activities, such as date and time each site is visited, weather conditions, site conditions, personnel assignments, and data collection.
  • Ensure the team collects data in accordance with the V&V work plan requirements.
  • Ensure team’s compliance with all safety rules.
  • Confirm the data collection is thorough, accurate and of the highest data quality.
  • Document all decision points according to process.
  • Review checklist, signing off that all the criteria has been successfully met.
  • Complete final QA/QC prior to leaving the site, to confirm all data was appropriately collected.

 

Office Responsibilities

  • Upload and rename all photos based on naming convention.
  • Review/edit GIS data and mine information to provide final approval.
  • Update DRUM database and tracking overall progress within each Field Operations Plan.
  • Provide technical review of the data – resolve any data conflicts.
  • Verify all photos and tables are filled out and named appropriately in Mine folder.
  • Assist with preparation, packaging (chain of custody), shipping soil, and water samples to laboratory for testing.
  • Assist in data issue resolution association with report generation.
  • Review reports for accuracy and appropriateness.

 

Work experience, skills, and capabilities needed:

  • Exhibit excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to mentor and train team members.
  • A minimum of two completed field seasons collecting and collating DRUM specific data or relevant previous data collection and collation experience.

 

Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses, and software proficiency required:

  • Familiar in all facets of the DRUM program, being well versed in the work plan requirements.
  • ArcGIS software.
  • Valid driver’s license.

 

Required Education and Years of Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Geology or related physical science with a minimum of 3 years work experience, in a field related to the environmental science industry.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 

 

Able to travel on uneven ground for multiple miles per day, potentially under adverse weather conditions. Occasional hikes could be all day. Much of the traveling is up and down hills.  Able to work in hot, cold, windy, and sometimes wet conditions. 

 

Ability to hike on mountainous terrain on extremely uneven ground at up to 13,000 feet and slopes up to 45 degrees. Ability to hike on average 10 to 20 miles per day carrying up to 50 pounds.

 

The employee is regularly required to handle or feel objects, to reach, and to communicate with multiple parties. The employee is frequently required to move about and maintain various positions. The employee must have the ability to perceive the environment and observe technical material and emails.
