Position Summary

RSI is currently recruiting for a Waste Management Specialist to support waste brokerage and transportation & disposal (T&D) activities across multiple project sites nationwide.

The Waste Management Specialist will work under the direction of a Waste Broker to support planning, field implementation, compliance, documentation, and coordination of waste management operations. This position requires the ability to travel and be onsite during waste management activities as needed.

 

Primary Responsibilities

The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and capable of working in highly regulated environments. Responsibilities include:

  • Support the Waste Broker under onsite and remote supervision.
  • Be available for onsite support during waste management activities at project locations across the country.
  • Interface with waste management vendors and transportation & disposal (T&D) contractors to coordinate communications, operations, and documentation.
  • Implement site-specific waste management plans in the field.
  • Ensure compliance with Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS), Operations, Quality Assurance, Radiation Protection, and Information Technology procedures and requirements.
  • Complete and maintain required documentation for proper waste management and T&D activities.
  • Assist in preparation of work packages for waste management, transport, and disposal activities.
  • Prepare tracking reports, forecasts, shipment schedules, and status summaries (weekly and monthly).
  • Assist with preparation and review of transportation documents for waste shipments.
  • Support waste technicians, project managers, and site personnel to ensure timely and compliant waste processing.
  • Maintain organized project records and documentation for review and audit purposes.
  • Work directly with disposal facilities under the Waste Broker’s direction to ensure accurate waste profiling and documentation.
  • Learn and apply analytical review of radiological, environmental, and chemical data to support proper waste classification and disposal.

 

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Health Physics, Chemistry, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
  • 0–3 years of experience in environmental services, waste management, nuclear operations, or regulated industrial environments preferred.
  • Familiarity with waste transportation and disposal regulations is a plus.

 

Job Knowledge/Qualifications

  • Strong organizational and documentation skills.
  • Ability to interpret procedures, regulatory requirements, and technical data.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Willingness to learn radiological, environmental, and chemical waste analysis.
  • Work may be required outside normal business hours and sometimes on short notice.
