Job Summary: The Environmental Superintendent II supports the Project Manager and Environmental Senior Superintendent to ensure that company policies and procedures are followed in the field in regard to safety, scheduling, budget, quality and customer satisfaction. The Environmental Superintendent II may be the supporting superintendent on a large project with multiple tasks or the lead superintendent on projects of moderate complexity, with the responsibility of providing mentoring/oversight of lower-level superintendents, equipment operators/laborers, and junior level field staff on a specific area of the project. Superintendent II may also support the PM/Sr Superintendent in on-site client management with minimal oversight.

Duties and Responsibilities:  Environmental Site Superintendent II typical responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Supervise the work of project field staff and subcontractors in several areas of the assigned project or task.
  • Coordinate project field logistics with project management/Senior Supervisors, and Clients
  • Enforce high safety standards including a clean job site.
  • Manage and perform weekly safety inspections.
  • Inspect the quality of work for compliance with project plans and ensure corrective action occurs if/when necessary.
  • Review details with project field staff and subcontractors to ensure work is in compliance with document plan.
  • Oversee site equipment and materials management and IDW management.  
  • Work collaboratively and proactively with project management, project field staff, and subcontractors during implementation of the project field schedule to ensure that milestone dates of the assigned project/task are met.
  • Review vendor material submittals.
  • Review contractors Quality Plan
  • Coordinate with vendors/subcontractors to provide materials/services to meet schedules.
  • Ensures all Daily Reports are complete and accurate and comply with all policies, and that daily work packages are distributed to the Client on time and as required.
  • Resolve jurisdictional disputes.
  • Establish credibility among project management and field staff, Clients, subcontractors, etc. by maintaining a fair and trustworthy environment.
  • Responsible for equipment selection and needs considering budgetary requirements.
  • Track field and PO costs and budgets in collaboration with PM.

Key Requirements, Education, and Experience:

  • 6 to 10 years of experience in environmental remediation and construction program/project assignments/management or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • OSHA 40-hour certified with appropriate updates.
  • OSHA-30 hour trained
  • Competent person for trenches/excavations
  • Familiar with Stormwater Pollution Prevention (SWPP) and Best Management Practices requirements and, as appropriate, certifications to oversee implementation of SWPP Plans in the field.
  • Proficient computer skills with ability to electronically track and document project information.
  • Capable of operating various pieces of heavy equipment (such as bobcat, backhoe, front end loader, excavator)
  • Ability and experience in managing multiple subcontractors in the field for complex projects with frequent to regular interactions involving clients and regulatory agency personnel during the course of field activities.
  • Ability to solve complex technical problems, develop conclusions and provide innovative recommendations for further actions.

Working Conditions:

  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds (e.g., one bag of sand) over short distances.
  • Take an Annual Medical Exam under GES’ Medical Monitoring Program
  • Work in an environment with dust, loud noise and/or vibrations.
  • Work in outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity.
  • Standard requirements for working in an office environment including working on desktop and laptop computers.

 

Travel:

  • Potential travel to other BU locations, including projects in remote locations.
