Job Title: Environmental Scientist
Location(s): Monticello, UT
Status: Full-Time
FLSA: Exempt
Hiring Range: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00/yr. (The anticipated starting salary pay range of $60,000.00 - $80,000.00/yr. is based on minimum requirements for this position. Minimum requirements are a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and less than 5 years of relevant experience. The offered salary will be based upon the selected applicant’s education, training, and experience.)

RSI EnTech, LLC is recruiting for Environmental Scientist who will support implementation of site-specific treatment systems for day-to-day Operations and Maintenance (O&M) at the Monticello, Utah, Site. Site O&M activities include the following:

  • Perform daily, weekly, monthly, and annual inspections of the site and surrounding properties in accordance with the site LTS&M Plan.
  • Conduct preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of the site infrastructure, treatment systems, facilities, and equipment.
  • Collect data as required to support site monitoring programs.
  • Radiological Scans/Surveys: Perform radiological surveys/scans as necessary following site and LMS policies and procedures.
  • Provide oversight for subcontractor personnel as necessary.
  • Project support in planning and executing site projects.
  • Report and document prepared detailed reports and documentation to communicate findings, recommendations, and compliance status to internal stakeholders.

This position is required to travel and be in the field up to 50% of the time.

 

Primary responsibilities and essential functions:

  • Receive daily work direction from the Site Operations Lead and collaborate as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Adhere to verbal and written instructions and guidance.
  • Demonstrate the ability to complete assigned tasks with minimal supervision and provide status updates to management.
  • Monitoring and inspect site operations, conducting project-wide inspections at regular intervals.
  • Participate in various project planning, implementation, and close-out activities.
  • Assist subcontractor personnel in their work at the site while providing oversight, including conducting safety briefings, training, and maintaining daily logs.
  • Participate in safety reviews and adhere to safe work practices as per DOE, Integrated Safety Management Systems, Integrated Work Control Process, and the Voluntary Protection Program.
  • Interface with stakeholders, clients, site visitors, and regulators in a professional manner.

Work experience, skills, and capabilities needed:

  • Proficiency in general carpentry, plumbing, electrical systems, mechanical systems, operating electronic telemetry equipment, general maintenance, and operation of a motor vehicle.
  • General construction experience and oversight, basic knowledge of light, medium, and heavy construction equipment.
  • Skilled in safe operation practices, operating UTV's and hauling UTV's, and loading, unloading, and towing utility trailers.
  • Experience with and safe use of hand tools, portable generators, electrical motors, and pumps and corded and cordless battery powered tools.
  • Ability to work alone in inclement weather conditions daily (e.g., rain, snow, heat, cold, etc.)

Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses, and software proficiency required:

  • Knowledge on operation of water piping, water pumps, underground utilities, PLC troubleshooting, general maintenance techniques, electrical, etc.
  • Possess proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing software.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Valid driver’s license.

Desirable qualifications, experience, or proficiencies of the ideal candidate:

  • Working around and knowledge of underground utilities (e.g., water, sewer, electric, gas, communication) and excavations.
  • OSHA Site Supervisor Training or equivalent.
  • Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER).
  • Radiological worker training.
  • Electrical Certification.
  • Telemetry Certification.
  •  

Required Education and Years of Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Geology, Construction Management, Business, or related field with less than 5 years’ experience. Experience in lieu of education.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: 

The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 

 

Able to travel on uneven ground for several miles (2-4 miles) per day under adverse weather conditions. Much of the traveling is up and down hills.  Able to work in hot, cold, windy, and sometimes wet conditions.  Able to work alone for several hours per day in the field.

 

The employee is regularly required handle or feel, to reach, and communicate. The employee is frequently required to move about and maintain various positions. The employee must have the ability to perceive the environment and observe technical material and emails.
