Position Summary

RSI is recruiting for an Interpretation Intern who will have the unique experience of ecological, and interpretive experience. Part of the positions is a front-line, public engagement role at the Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management (LM) government owned, contractor operated, public use interpretive centers. Part of the position will be in field operations including a mix of ecological land stewardship experience as well as operations with ground water sampling and maintenance.

 

Job Title: Interpretation Intern

Location(s): Fernald, OH

Status: Part-Time

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Hiring Range: $17.75 per hour

 

This position is required to travel 10% or less of the time.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Provide front-line interpretive services and site related information for public and private groups, visitors, when visitors center is open to the public, including weekends and evenings.
• Assist with outreach and public on and off site.
• Conduct historical, scientific, natural history, and operational (production and remediation era) research in ongoing efforts that contribute to site knowledge supporting public engagement, exhibits development, document production, and media.
• Provide project support to museum collections program.
• Maintain and organize program supplies and collaborate with administrative support to reorder supplies within budget scope.
• Assist with site inspections & collecting water samples daily and monthly.
• Assist the site ecology team with field work as needed.
• Must be available afternoons and weekends.
• Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education and Years of Relevant Experience

• Completion of 60 credit hours prior to start of internship towards an undergraduate degree in Biological, Historical, or Environmental major, or a related field.
• No experience required.

 

Licenses and Certifications

• Valid Driver’s License
• No professional certification required

 

Required Skills and Abilities

• Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.
• Schedule flexibility – able to work weekdays, weekends, and evenings.
• High degree of ingenuity, flexibility, team orientation, collaboration, creativity, and innovation.
• Perform work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions including temperatures below 32 degrees and above 90 degrees.
• Understand and adhere to federal and contractor regulations, policies, and procedures for safety, communication, and operations.
• Comfortable using computer technology including the Microsoft Windows operating system
• Ability to learn and work in a hands-on environment.

Essential Physical Requirements

 

Medium: Work involves moving objects by exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, or an above-negligible amount and up to 10 pounds constantly. Physical demand requirements are more than those for light work.
