Job Title: Field Geologist

Location(s): Grand Junction, CO

Status: Full-Time

FLSA: Exempt

Hiring Range: The anticipated starting salary pay range of $50,000 - $64,000/year with a bachelor’s degree. The offered salary may be more depending upon additional education, training, and experience of the selected applicant.

RSI EnTech, LLC is recruiting for a Field Geologist to support the DRUM program. This position is primarily responsible for researching upcoming field areas, including geology, mining methods employed, and general terrain in a challenging outdoor environment with difficult access. This position will assist the team leader in preparing strategy for accessing and completing assigned areas.

 

This position is required to travel at least 50% of the time.

 

Primary responsibilities and essential functions:

  • Research the upcoming field area, including geology, mining methods employed, general terrain, challenges (difficulty of access)
  • Assist team leader in preparing strategy
  • Record observations which are critical to the site risk and hazard evaluation, including proximity to nearby roads, and evidence of site use by the public using GPS enabled field computer
  • Upload, edit, and review geospatial data in ArcMAP
  • Work with GIS staff to ensure mapping is complete and represents what was obtained in the field.
    • This includes working within DRUM database geospatial system
  • Performs technical tasks as may be requested by company management in support of organizational objectives
  • Exercises compliance with company and other policies and procedures

 

Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses, and software proficiency required:

  • Knowledge of fundamental principles, concepts, and techniques in specified field of science
  • Skill and ability to perform moderately complex professional tasks under general supervision and guidance
  • Ability to organize own work independently to meet established objectives, using discretion in performing duties
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job. Proficient in MS office required
  • Valid driver’s license, manual transmission experience preferred
  • Field experience in the Colorado Plateau and GIS experience preferred

 

 

Desirable qualifications, experience, or proficiencies of the ideal candidate:

  • Field experience in a geosciences related capacity

 

Required Education and Years of Experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Geology. Demonstrated communication and analytical skills and a working knowledge of computer systems and software application programs preferred.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 

 

Able to travel on uneven ground for multiple miles per day, potentially under adverse weather conditions. Occasional hikes could be all day. Much of the traveling is up and down hills.  Able to work in hot, cold, windy, and sometimes wet conditions. 

 

Ability to hike on mountainous terrain on extremely uneven ground at up to 13,000 feet and slopes up to 45 degrees. Ability to hike on average 10 to 20 miles per day carrying up to 50 pounds.

 

The employee is regularly required to handle or feel objects, to reach, and to communicate with multiple parties. The employee is frequently required to move about and maintain various positions. The employee must have the ability to perceive the environment and observe technical material and emails.
