Job Title: Interpretive Planner
Location(s): Remote
Hiring Range: $21.40 – $32.00/hr (Depending on education, experience)
Status: Part-Time, an average of 20 hours per week is anticipated, week-to-week workload may fluctuate pending project needs.
FLSA: Non-Exempt

RSI EnTech, LLC is recruiting for an Interpretive Planner who will provide support to the U.S. Department of Energy Office of Legacy Management (DOE LM) in two key areas of interpretive efforts, 1) direct support to LM’s Manhattan Project National Park Coordinator and 2) provide programmatic support as a subject matter expert and project management of interpretive projects.

 

This position is required to travel 25% of the time.  This includes but is not limited to traveling to the Secret City Festival in Oak Ridge and the Los Alamos ScienceFest.

 

Primary responsibilities and essential functions:

  • Provide excellent professional customer service for both the public and internal team members
  • Demonstrate expertise, project leadership, and flexibility in delivering on the LM mission
  • Research and interpret for partners and the public complex historical, scientific, and regulatory information
  • Direct support to LM’s Manhattan Project National Park Coordinator

o supports LM’s efforts internally and externally with government and non-government partners regarding the enacting legislation of the Manhattan Project National Park

o develop presentations,

o craft briefing materials,

o document management,

o create agendas,

o capture meeting minutes,

o review interpretive exhibits and technical plans

o support or lead interpretive projects, as needed

o lead the planning and travel to participate as a front-line interpreter at two, in-person public events annually, the Secret City Festival in Oak Ridge and the Los Alamos ScienceFest.

  • Programmatic support in conjunction with site specific staff as well as a team of graphic designers, editors, videographers, public affairs, management, and LM clients

o serves as project lead on a variety of interpretive efforts

o develop project plans

o define interpretive goals and objectives

o write a programmatic interpretive plan

o lead wayside sign projects

o support planning of in-person events

o develop temporary and permanent exhibits

o create virtual and in-person visitor experiences

o create brochures, videos, and similar materials

o identify audiences

o work with third party vendors

  • Other duties as assigned

 

Work experience, skills, and capabilities needed:

  • Provide one-on-one, positive client relations support.
  • Ability to write, craft, and manage technical documents, support meetings, capture meeting minutes, and similar.
  • Ability to research, craft, and write interpretive plans.
  • Ability to write and review exhibit text and lead interpretive exhibit projects.
  • Ability to design interpretive experiences both virtually and in-person for the public with a wide diversity in audiences.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organization and project management skills defining scope, approach, schedule, and budget.
  • Ability to work with third party vendors for exhibits, sign fabrication, and virtual projects.
  • Ability to communicate projects with graphic designer, editor, photographer, and videographer support.
  • Proven problem-solving, decision-making, and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage internal client expectations across multiple, competing projects/priorities with quick turnaround times.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality.
  • Can-do attitude and collaborative work style; flexibility and adaptability.

Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses, and software proficiency required:

  • Valid driver’s license
  • Microsoft Office Suite
  • SharePoint
  • Familiarity with the U.S. Department of Energy
  • Familiarity working as a contractor for the U.S. government

 

Required Education and Years of Experience:

Bachelor's degree in interpretation, education, history, biology, chemistry or related field and a minimum of 5 years of related experience. 

 

Desirable qualifications, experience, or proficiencies of the ideal candidate:

  • National Association for Interpretation certification preferred.
  • 10 years of related experience is preferred.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The employee is regularly required to use hands to handle or feel, to reach with hands and arms, and to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
