RSI EnTech (an ASRC Industrial company) is the primary contractor for the Legacy Management Support Services contract (LMS) under the U.S. Department of Energy’s Legacy Management (LM) program. 

The LMS contract supports the mission of DOE’s Office of Legacy Management (LM) to fulfill post-closure responsibilities at 100 sites across the U.S. and Puerto Rico. Services include a variety of activities to ensure the future protection of human health and the environment at mission-related sites that are closed and transferred to LM for long-term stewardship and management. https://www.energy.gov/lm/lm-sites 

The project engineer position provides engineering support for multiple LM sites. Projects can involve managing specialty engineering sub-contracts, directly developing design plans and specifications for projects such as disposal cells, stormwater and groundwater management, and water treatment systems.  Some sites also include public interpretive centers, as well as buildings and facilities that support site operations.  

This engineering position provides exposure to a wide variety of engineering disciplines, with a diverse range of varied tasks.  Project’s development frequently involves a multi-disciplinary team approach consisting of ecologists, environmental compliance specialists, safety and health professionals, quality assurance disciplines, site operational staff, and various ground and surface water specialists.

FLSA: Exempt

Hiring Range: $52,000.00 - $67,000.00/yr. (The anticipated starting salary pay range of $52,000.00 - $67,000.00/yr. is based on minimum requirements for this position. Minimum requirements are a Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent) and at least 5 years of relevant experience. The offered salary will be based upon the selected applicant’s education, training, and experience.)

Job Description:

RSI Entech, LLC is searching for a Project Engineer with experience in an engineering design environment, working with a team of other engineers and other technical disciplines to prepare engineering analysis, plans and specifications. The Project Engineer, manages design projects by assisting the customer in determining project scope, scheduling, and planning the project from inception to record documents.

 

This position is required to travel at least 20% of the time. 

 

Primary responsibilities and essential functions:

  • Under limited supervision, plans, develops, coordinates, reviews and assesses the design of projects, including basic organization of design team, concepts, format of calculations, selection of equipment standards, system design, and preparation of plans and specifications.
  • Performs remedial investigations and feasibility studies to determine and outline projects.
  • Prepares drawings, cost estimates, and engineering reports.
  • Prepares and inspects construction plans.
  • Manages and reviews construction plans and specifications, and engineering reports prepared by outside consultants.
  • Preparation of construction plans and specifications to construct earthwork grading, erosion control features, utility lines, and other civil construction projects.
  • Provides engineering field support for ongoing construction activities.
  • Assists in providing assessments of work scope, potential safety problems, and special design considerations.
  • Assists in providing technical assessments, conducting trade-off studies, and providing direction based on costs, schedule, and performance.
  • Participates in internal reviews.
  • Trains and mentors’ more junior staff.
  • Lead engineering aspects of a task or project

 

Work experience, skills, and capabilities needed:

  • Skill and ability to perform complex professional tasks and to analyze and develop innovative solutions to problems.
  • Ability to recommend approaches for new and improved processes.
  • Ability to work with broad objectives, with latitude to determine the best way to accomplish tasks.
  • Ability to lead certain aspects of a task or project.
  • Level of language skills, mathematical skills, communication skills, reasoning ability and computer skills necessary to perform essential functions of the job.
  • Surveying knowledge, pavement design, experience in construction projects interface.

 

Technical knowledge, certifications/licenses, and software proficiency required:

  • Professional Engineer licensure through a state board with capabilities to acquire licensure through reciprocity in LM Sites states within one year.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD with Civil 3D capabilities, hydrology, and hydraulics analysis software.
  • Microsoft Project
  • Microsoft Office Suite, Word, Excel
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Required Education and Years of Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, or related technical discipline. With 5 or more years of related experience.

 

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements: 

Medium Work Category - The employee exerts up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. 

 

Able to travel on uneven ground for several miles (2-4 miles) per day under adverse weather conditions. Much of the traveling is up and down hills.  Able to work in hot, cold, windy, and sometimes wet conditions.  Able to work alone for several hours per day in the field.

 

The employee is regularly required handle or feel, to reach, and communicate. The employee is frequently required to move about and maintain various positions. The employee must have the ability to perceive the environment and observe technical material and emails.
